I've been trying to draw again, and I decided that I wanted to draw more realistically. But I realised that I suck at that. So I drew this.
There are a few things I don't like about this. The right eye is bigger than the left one, and the right line on the neck is thicker than the left line and some of the lines are really scratchy. But otherwise, I don't think it's too bad.
There have been professional artists who paint portraits in this exact style. That said, let me point out that the face is a little high... Or the top of the head is a little low. Other than that, you've pretty much pointed out your own errors. =Shnek also mentioned the smoothness of the lines, but since you said you were trying out something new, it didn't even cross my mind until I read Shnek's critique! Definitely keep experimenting with your art. That's how we all find our own style.

Stop that, or I shall be forced to foreshorten you.
I'm not sure how stylized you were trying to make this, but if you were going for realism, I can point out several issues that might help.
First off- I love the simple approach, as in you haven't bogged this down with unnecessary shading or details. But you might want to clean up the smudges to really make it look nice and clean. Scanners are super unforgiving about that kind of thing.
Face-You nailed the ear location, which is very good. The neck is also the right thickness. However, the eyes are too high up and far apart. When looking at a face full on, the eyes are exactly one eye-width apart. (Maybe make them a little bigger too.) They are also exactly half way from the top of the skull to the jaw. I'd also make the nose a bit longer. The mouth is too small, as well, typically I THINK it goes from between the inside corners of the two eyes. But make it a bit bigger in general. Also round out those corners in the skull.
Composition- I love it. The negative space is very successful the curve in the neck is nice, and I love how androgynous you've made the figure. Realism is HARD, but it comes with practice. Fortunately it seems like the only issues you are having are very technical, which is all practice. Good job!
